Asthma Register

All pupils who have been diagnosed as being asthmatic and require an inhaler in school, need to be on our Asthma Register. To make this easier for parents, and to enable us to keep a more centralised record, we require all parents of asthmatic pupils to complete an electronic form to detail the care required in school. This form is available below and should be completed as soon as possible. Once you have completed the form online, please bring in your child’s inhaler in a named bag and hand to their class teacher. No asthma medication can be administered until the form is completed.

Parents are asked to contact the academy office of any on-going changes to their child’s care throughout the year.

Administration of Medication in School

Since the removal of all Covid regulations on schools, and as part of the return to normality, school procedures from September are fully reverting to those outlined in Future Generation Trust’s First Aid and Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policies. This means from 1st September, the academy and its staff will only be able to administer pharmacy-prescribed medication (including the child’s name and dosage) if it is prescribed to be taken four times a day. Any medication that is required to be administered during school must be handed into the academy office or via Keystones staff, along with the accompanying signed medication paperwork. The medication will be signed in to, and out of, school on a daily basis.

There are some specific exceptions where the academy may be able to administer prescribed medication for children three times a day, who attend before and after school provision or are on residential visits. Any administration of medication in these circumstances must be agreed on a case-by-case basis with the academy office.

The academy is not able to administer non-prescribed medication (.e.g calpol, antihistimines etc.) except for in extenuating circumstances. Any request for non-prescribed medication must be made using the ‘Request to Administer Non-Prescribed Medication Form’, available from the academy office. Permission for any such request to be granted lies with the Headteacher and is entirely at their discretion, based on the individual circumstances.

No child should be sent to school with medication of any kind, including non-prescribed treatments.
